Location:
The St. Andrew's Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson

Thirty-two golfers from the SASNY and their guests convened on June 3rd at the wonderful St.Andrew’s Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson to play in the 66th annual golf outing of the Society.

Although the day was quite hot and humid, tempers remained cool despite higher than usual scores.  Although there were calls for caddies who might provide some local knowledge and shouts of “where’s the beverage cart!”, a good time was had by all.

After the eighteen hole competition fluids were replenished and a wonderful address to the Haggis was delivered by past President of the Society, Rod Kerr, who happened to be also the low gross winner of the President’s Cup with an 84.  Other winners included “long ball striker” Charlie Zabriskie who shot an 89 and won second low gross.

The Low Net - Andrew King Memorial Hong Kong Cup was won by Garrett Wilson who scored a 72.  The golf committee continues to search for an appropriate trophy to replace the elaborate Hong Kong Cup which was lost on 9/11 when Andrew Marshall King’s life tragically ended at age 42.  Andrew was the president of the ESpeed desk at Cantor Fitzgerald and was working in their World Trade Center offices on Sept. 11th..  King's co-workers at the bond-trading firm Cantor Fitzgerald recognized his enthusiasm and tagged him "Kinger" to complement his outgoing attitude.  Andrew had won the Hong Kong Cup that year and proudly displayed it on his desk at work.

According to the web, http://www.voicesofseptember11.org/dev/memorials.php?mem_id=436 , Andrew King, a member of the SASNY, was a 1983 UNC graduate who lived in Princeton, N.J. with his Judy and three children.  His oldest daughter, CeCe,  was an equestrian who doted on her chestnut quarterhorse, while Carly the youngest, was used to getting doted on as "Daddy's Little Girl."  King's son, Drew was known to be an avid lacrosse and basketball player. Young Drew apparently also inherited some of his father's skill at golf. "He had a hole in one at the age of 9, the youngest person to do so at our club," Judy said at the time.  Judy also said that she and CeCe planned to take up golf as a way of keeping King's memory alive.

The Golf Committee Chairman have made a commitment to find a suitable trophy replacement so that it can be awarded at the at the 67th Annual Golf Outing  of the SASNY.  If possible we will play on Andrew’s home course in the Princeton area and offer a toast in remembrance to all whose lives where tragically ended ten years prior.
