The Burns Society of the State of New York hosted their 139th Annual Banquet at the Racquet & Tennis Club the evening of January 29, 2010. A spirited crowd of Saint Andrews members were their in large numbers.

Following a most cordial cocktail hour, we were seated at dinner to be welcomed by fellow SAS member and Burns President, Peter Lawrie.

Grace was delivered by another of our numbers, the Reverend George Rutler. But this was far more than a simple Grace as it was accompanied by a most informative and entertaining recall of events that only one of such accomplished letters as the Reverend could have delivered.

This year as in pasts the Burns Society showed it’s great generosity in making a fine donation to the Saint Andrews Society’s Scholarship Fund. As it has always been the case, the Burns Society presented us with a superb and amusing speaker, Alan Bryson of Scocha…the famous Scottish Folk Band. Well worth “the price of admission”….

A Burns night would not be complete without the “Address to the Haggis” which was so very well do by the Society’s Vice President and SAS member…Kenneth Donnelly.

Finally, let us not forget the fine piping by yet another SAS member…Mr. Larry Cole. Another grand night thanks to the Burns Society.
