Kirkin o'the Tartan

Start Date:
Sat, 04/10/2010 - 10:00am
Location:
Church of Our Saviour 59 Park Avenue at 38th Street New York City

The Church of Our Savior was once again host to the Kirkin with thanks to its pastor, Rev. George Rutler. The Rev Barrie Shepherd conducted the service and delivered a most powerful sermon entitled “What’s It All About, Anyway?”.

We saw a fine procession led by Color Guard Captain, Rob Mills aided by Peter Lawrie, Gavin Maxwell and Douglas Hampton-Dowson (Gavin and Doug did double duty, Ushering as well)…..the Mount Kisco Pipe and Drum…. The Officers of the Saint Andrews Society represented by Rab Ker III, Bill Maitland and Derek Anderson…Honored Guest including Alex Ferguson, Jim Mather MSP, Jamie McGrigor MSP, Gil Patterson MSP, Pauline McNeill MSP and Margaret Kennedy…the Bible, carried with great care by Robin Naysmith…and finally the Clergy of Rev. Barrie Shepherd, Rev George Rutler, Rev Richard Seagraves…

Bill Maitland did a fine job as Protocol Coordinator assisted by Ushers Gavin Maxwell, Douglas Hampton-Dowson, Don Whamond and Scott Dillin (who also carried the duties of assuring the buses were ready to transport all to the parade following breakfast).

But before we adjoin to the Under Croft for this wonderful respite breakfast, we must recognize Elizabeth Ker; designate Kirkin Coordinator for assembling and guiding the children who delivered the Tartans to the Altar. They were Felix Adnet-Bruce, Theodore Adnet-Bruce, Caitlin Dillin, Abigail Ker, Madeleine Ker, R. Walker Ker IV, Hannah Simmons, Eleanor Simmons and David Simmons.

Hopefully I have not left anyone out and if so please know it was not by design.

The breakfast in the Under Croft was deemed a success. At a better price than last year, many commented the food was better. Maybe too good as a last minute scramble for more salmon was necessary to meet the high demand….
The Audience has the pleasure of greeted by President Ker, Alex Ferguson and Margaret Kennedy…..then, having a full fill of salmon, fresh fruit, bagels, pastries and various libations we all exited to the buses for a wonderful tour before debarking at our Parade site to assemble for the Parade…what a glorious day, what a glorious week!!
